Training, Health, Benefits - these are a few reasons MSA is an important resource for appliance repair business owners or technicians. Their website is geared toward the US and Canada. The links below are directly from their website for US customers.
From their About Us Page: " The Service Alliance Group was formed to fill the gaps and lack of quality resources found in other home service industry associations. Service Alliance Group is not so much an association, we are an ALLIANCE of home servicers in the Appliance Repair, HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing fields. Service Alliance Group exists to Elevate The Industry of home service companies to become the most professional versions of themselves."
This is an invaluable resource with much more to offer than this website. They've got podcasts, a service manual library, SOPs and Business Templates, Mastermind Groups, and much more.
Yet again, another invaluable resource. Touted as the "largest appliance repair association" by the Washington Post, you really cannot go wrong with this. They've got a great service library, business resources and tools, and networking opportunities. They're also responsible for ASTI (Annual Service Training Institute).
If you want to buy refrigerant or do sealed system work, you'll need an EPA certification. This website provides you with the material to study and provides exams needed to obtain your license.
The Service Corps of Retired Executives. If you've never heard of SCORE, they provide free business advice to small businesses, and it's a well-established entity. I gave them a try years ago, when I was first starting out, and I was pleased with the outcome.
While this is not directly related to appliance repair, it's definitely a valuable resource you should check out.
If you do any work with commercial laundry equipment (such as SpeedQueen, Heubsch, Dexter, etc.), this resource is a must. They provide parts, technical assistance and documentation, and training. I have attended a few trainings at their facilities, and they're always worthwhile.
This site is intended to be a resource for those new to the trade. You'll find blog posts and general information helpful to you in your pursuits of becoming an appliance repair pro!
